The Son of Man
Act 1:
Scene1:
Mary and Elizabeth meet and discuss the apparitions of angel Gabriel.
Elizabeth: My dear Mary! This is unbelievable. The angel Gabriel has finally granted me a son.
Mary: I understand how it feels, for I have on myself a creature of divine origin.
Elizabeth: Oh great News Mary, but not all is so great. My husband has gone mute due to his lack of faith in Gabriel.
Mary: Don’t worry in time he shall come to speak about the marvels of the lord when he gains faith. I am leaving from Nazareth to Bethlehem soon; we must go to the census.
Elizabeth: Farewell dear. May the divine light guide your way and the holy creature inside you.
Scene 2:
Jesus is born in Bethlehem in the multitude and grows to be the promised messiah.
Joseph: Finally the kid has come to this world at the right time. It is certainly a moment of bliss.
Mary: Oh great be the lord and his angel Gabriel! The promised kid has been born! Let me be to him the best mother I can.
Joseph: I am sure you will be dear. You where chosen to carry such a quest for a reason.
Mary: Thank you for your support. I admire your dedication to Gods cause.
Scene 3:
Jesus has grown and Mary leaves him behind in Jerusalem. When she realizes fear strikes her heart and they turn back and look for him.
Mary: (running around town in search of her son) Jesus! Where are you? Please don’t scare me child!
She finds him in the temple surrounded by people and runs towards him.
Mary: Oh child! I feared I had lost and have looked for you all day!
Jesus: Why where you worried? Didn’t you think that I might be about my father’s business?
Mary and Joseph understand not his words.
Mary: let’s go child. We are on our way back to Nazareth.
Scene 4:
John the Baptist starts preaching about Jesus, and to his surprise the messiah comes to be baptized.
John: I have baptized you all with water, but the one that is to come I am not worthy of unloosing his shoes. He that will come after me shall baptize you with Holy Ghost and fire!
The people come and listen to his words while he baptizes them with the water of the river. Then, out of the horizon, Jesus appears.
Jesus: John, baptize me in the river so that I may absolve all sins from this waters and make them pure by washing them with my blood at the right time.
John Baptizes him in the waters of the river as a symbolic act and the skies open to a voice.
Voice from sky: You are my beloved son; in thee I am well pleased.
Scene 5:
Jesus is tempted by Satan for forty days in the wilderness.
Satan: are you hungry? If you be the son of god turn that stone in bread.
Jesus: Man shall not eat of bread alone, but of every word of god.
Satan: I shall give you all kingdoms of the world if only you worship me.
Jesus: You shall worship the Lord thy God, and only him shall you serve.
Satan: (taking Jesus to a high pillar on the temple) Cast thyself off! For if you are the Son of God angels shall come to your rescue.
Jesus: Thou shall not tempt the Lord thy God.
Act2:
Scene 1:
Jesus goes to Galilee and starts preaching and finding followers, soon they are a multitude and he talked to them from a mountain.
Jesus: Blessed be the poor, for theirs is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you that hunger, for you shall be filled. Blessed be you that weep, for you shall laugh.
As he talked to them people came close to touch him and through his virtue he healed them all.
Jesus: (to disciples) I have chosen you to accompany me in your faith. Great will be your reward, for God shall have you in esteem.
Scene 2:
Jesus goes into Capernaum and starts preaching and working miracles on people. He calms a storm, cures a man possesd by a demon and resurrects a woman. He then sends his disciples to preach and heal with the powers he has granted. Soon he has a crowd of 5,000 followers behind him.
Peter: Christ, there are thousands of people and not enough food for all.
Jesus: make them seat in companies of fifty and worry not more. (Taking five loaves of bread and two fish he looks up to the sky. Then he sets the food before the people and they eat as much as they can and it is enough for the multitude.)
Jesus: Peter, who do these people say I am?
Peter: Some say it’s John the Baptist, others, Elias the prophet.
Jesus: And what do you say?
Peter: The Christ of God.
Scene 3:
Jesus continues his preaching and traveling until he arrives to Jerusalem. He clears his father’s temple from merchants and starts preaching to the common person, which infuriates the high priests and scribes.
Jesus: You thieves get out of my father’s house. You have made out of a place of prayer a den for thieves.
They leave and people come to listen to Jesus.
Jesus: My Father the lord is the true owner of this temple. It is for you to pray and understand his will, not for commerce and materialism. What you have here you shall not in the kingdom of God, so worry not about richness.
The crowd is captivated and grows and with time the authorities decide to stop the man who claims to be t he son of God.
Act 3:
Scene 1:
Passover arrives and Jesus celebrates Seder meal with his disciples where he instructs them in the Eucharist and gives them some words of advice.
Jesus: Drink this wine as my blood and this bread as my flesh which is given unto you for the forgiveness of sins. Satan has worked his evil. Judas will treason me to the high priests.
Peter: Oh no my lord!
Jesus: and you peter shall deny you know me thrice before the cock crows.
(Disciples are confused and afraid.)
Jesus: come you with me; let us pray in the Mount of Olives. Pray to the God that he lets you not fall into temptation.
Peter wept and Judas came followed by a crowd. He came close and kissed Jesus.
Jesus: Judas you betray the son of man with a kiss?
The crowd takes him to the high priests house.
Scene 2:
The priest questions him and takes him to Pontius Pilate, the governor.
High priest: Are you the messiah? The Son of God?
Jesus: As who say that I am.
High priest: He has spoken. He declares himself as the Son of God the impostor! Lest take him to the governor for crucifixion!
Crowd: (to peter) and he! He was with him!
Peter: I know him not! I know him not! I know him not! (And as the cock crows he remembers the words of his master, he has denied him thrice as was foretold.)
The crowd takes Jesus to the governor.
Pontius: Are you the king of Jews?
Jesus: Thou say it.
Pontius: I find no fault in this man. Take him to Herod!
Crowd arrives to Herod for a punishment.
Herod: He answers not my question; I find nothing worthy of his death. Take him to Pontius.
The crowd takes him back in anger.
Pontius: I found no fault. Shall I release Jesus or Barabbas?
Crowd: release Barabbas! Crucify Jesus!
Pontius: so shall it be done as you ask. DO your will with him but I found no guilt in the man!
Scene 3:
The angry crowd takes Jesus to the place of crucifixion where his destiny awaits him.
Crowd: are you the king of Jews now?
Simon goes by and is forced to carry the cross up to the mountain.
Jesus: Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do!
Scene 4:
In his cross Jesus suffers along with other two criminals being crucified with him.
First criminal: If you be the son of God, save yourself and save us!
Second criminal: we are being condemned justly, for we did act wrong. But this man did nothing of the sort, don’t you fear God? Lord, remember me when this is over.
Jesus: Today you shall be with me in paradise. Father into thy hands I commend my spirit! (With this he gave up his ghost).
Scene 5:
Joseph asks for the body and buries Jesus wrapped in linen. Three days after the women come with the essences they had prepared to find the body missing.
Women: disciples! The body of Jesus is missing!
Peter: I will go check for this is impossible! (He goes and finds the body missing, the tomb being guarded by two angels in shining garments)
Jesus soon appears to his disciples.
Jesus: Peace be unto you. He blessed them and as he did this he was carried up to heaven
The disciples returned to Jerusalem and preached in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
